WHAT OUR FOCUS AREAS ARE

Mondi Zimele has the following objectives:

• Encourage long-term economic empowerment, by seeking and facilitating BEE deals in Mondi’s value chain.
• Develop and nurture commercially viable small and medium sized businesses; and
• Offer innovative and competitive BEE products, services and solutions to Mondi and its broader stakeholders.

These objectives are pursued through investment in 3 core focus areas.

• Forestry
  
  Businesses operating in and providing services to the Mondi forestry value chain. These businesses typically have a broad economic reach and given the distribution of Mondi's forestry operations are largely centred in the rural locales of Mpumalanga, Northern KwaZulu-Natal and the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. Examples of past SMME developments have been in the areas of harvesting, silviculture, forestry transport and fire protection.


• Supply Chain
  
  Businesses that provide products and services to the various mills and operations of Mondi throughout South Africa. Examples of past SMME developments have been in the areas of transport, industrial contracting and services, pallet manufacturing and training.


• Small Business Start-up
  
  This is a new focus area of a development which aims to provide small loan finance to viable SMME companies within Mondi's areas of operations but not necessarily within the Mondi value chain. The specific focus is on women and youth development through the establishment of small enterprise in our rural communities.
